The river Fowey is a true Moorland river, rising near Brown Willy, the highest point in Cornwall.

It flows for 30 miles to the sea at Fowey and is little influenced by agricultural or industrial activity.

Characteristically gin clear, it provides a real challenge to the fly fisherman.

Salmon

15lb coloured cock fish being returned. Ian Ashby won the Simon Rothman Memorial Trophy with this fish caught on the last day of the season.

We see small numbers of Spring Salmon with the odd very large fish being taken. Summer grilse have increased in number over recent years, taking up station in the fast runs and white water. We do not seriously fish for salmon until September, however, and the big run of fish usually awaits the first October spate. With the season closing 15th December salmon fishing is really limited to ten weeks when we expect to take around 30 fish.

Bait fishing is allowed in the top two beats, where deep lying fish are difficult to cover by any other method.
